Pierre Waché says little from RB22 will transfer to 2027 RB23
Red Bull technical director Pierre Waché reveals that the 2027 RB23 will feature a new chassis and gearbox to address current car limitations. The team aims to maximize performance through new aerodynamic and mechanical parts while managing the budget cap constraints.
Wache targets 2027 resurgence
Red Bull technical director Pierre Wache says "close to nothing" from the RB22 machine will transfer to the 2027 RB23. The team is working on the new car because regulation changes and car limitations necessitate major updates. Wache explained that there are modifications to the regulations and plenty of limitations on the car, which influences the design of the RB23. Wache told RacingNews365 that the team intends to make many new parts because transferring old components is not good for the budget cap. Wache identified specific improvements needed in packaging, aerodynamics, and mechanical areas. Although the 2026 titles are now firmly out of reach for Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar, Red Bull intends to carry its recent momentum into the 2027 season. While the RB22 had a slow start to the season, it became a race-winning machine after Max Verstappen won in Sepang and in Singapore, following an upgrade in Azerbaijan that increased performance. This improvement helped the team regain competitiveness.
New mechanical and aero designs
The 2027 car will feature a different chassis and gearbox to accommodate new regulation modifications. Wache explained that while some small elements might transfer, the team will focus on new parts for packaging, aerodynamics, and mechanical systems because transferring much of the RB22 is not good for the budget cap. Because the team must manage the cost cap, they are focusing on building new parts rather than reusing existing components from the RB22. This overhaul is necessary because the team identified plenty of areas where they can improve the current machine. The team intends to make plenty of new parts to ensure the RB23 overcomes the limitations identified in the current RB22. The team expects to start the 2027 season strongly to maintain momentum during the second year of the new regulations.
Wache noted that the team will transfer only a very small amount of components, such as some minor parts, but the gearbox and chassis will be different for the 2027 model. The 2027 season offers a strong opportunity to carry newfound momentum over to the new machine. Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar cannot win the 2026 titles, as the team is now focused on the next regulation cycle and the pursuit of 2027 dominance.
