Liam Lawson secures points in 12 races amid Red Bull seat uncertainty
Liam Lawson has scored points in 12 of 17 races this season, helping Racing Bulls approach a fifth-place constructors' finish. Despite his strong performance, his future remains uncertain as Red Bull considers promoting F2 contender Nikola Tsolov.
Consistent scoring amidst seat uncertainty
Liam Lawson earns his place at Racing Bulls through his best season in F1. He scored points in 12 of 17 races this year. He also secured three Sprints. Lawson took career-equalling fifth places in Monaco and the Singapore Sprint. These results help guide the Faenza-squad to the cusp of finishing fifth in the constructors’ standings, which would be the first time the squad finishes in that position in F1 under its various guises. His seat remains at risk because Red Bull might promote F2 title contender Nikola Tsolov into a race seat, especially since Arvid Lindblad is set for a second season following an impressive rookie campaign. If Lawson falls off the grid for 2027, he has no options for an immediate race return, although the driver market is more open for 2028.
Lawson prioritizes winning over exit rumors
I find Lawson’s refusal to dwell on a Red Bull exit to be the most sensible part of his recent media comments. He told RacingNews365 that he had a good first half of the year and a good couple of races at Red Bull. Lawson also noted that Red Bull decisions do not always follow a simple logic, stating that "the Red Bull specifics of it, I think they’ve shown many times in the past that sometimes that’s not entirely why they make decisions". "So for me, my focus is to put myself in a position where I can be winning for one, and if I can go to a team that gives me a better chance to do that, that’s obviously what we’re what we get to do," he said. He addressed the possibility of keeping his seat for 2027 and then departing for pastures new for the 2028 season, though the driver market is more open for 2028. He is focusing on the current fight for P5. He will visit good tracks for the rest of the year. The Racing Bulls team prepares for the United States GP on 25 October 2026, the Mexico City GP on 01 November 2026, and the Brazilian GP on 08 November 2026. They also face the Las Vegas GP on 22 November 2026, the Qatar GP on 29 November 2026, and the Abu Dhabi GP on 06 December 2026.
